This isn't really news to me; there are certain words that I've vowed to never use in my writing due to misuse and abuse of the poor things by people who don't care. ('Passion' is one of them. Guh. Look, I understand that Guantanamo is one of THE most important questions, right now, but frankly I'm sick unto death of it showing up in the Writer's Block.
